Excellent. Gives us time to clean up at home, and return to school to assist in evaluation.

Be safe coming home.

Patterson is hoping they will have electricity by Friday or the weekend at least. Morgan City is the problem. Keep checking this website because wednesday is a tentative date.

What about roads opening up to let us go home? Has anyone heard about this? Good news about Patterson! Maybe I can get home by the weekend! Thanks

We live in Bayou Vista. My husband left Houston this morning and had no problems getting into town. They are letting people in, it is just at your own risk because there isn't any medical facilities. They are saying a few convenience stores are opened.

Good news for some of the residents of Patterson. Electricity has been restored in the Sugar Ridge and Pietro Estates subdivisions. They have also turned on the water in Morgan City (so that toilets can be flushed). However, officials do not recommend that the water be used for any purpose other than flushing toilets.

Schools in the East End of the Parish:

I rode by several schools today (not much else to do) to survey the damage.

Bayou Vista Elementary: No visible damage to the outside of the facilities.

Patterson Junior High School: No visible damage. Lots of trees and large limbs down. One appears to have landed on fence in elementary playground. ISSP still standing.

Shannon Elementary: Some damage to bus canopy. Appears that there may be damage to roof as metal was hanging from front of school.

Maitland: Window was open on south side of building. However, it was closed a short time later. The sign at the top of the school fell and is hanging on for dear life.

Norman: Windows open. No real signs of damage.

MCHS: Fence has collapsed around Tiger Stadium. Fence at Tiger Diamond is also down in several areas. One of the light poles at the baseball stadium fell on a classroom at MCJHS.

Morgan City Jr. High: Roof to bus canopy is gone. Tons of debris and metal in front of campus. Several windows open or busted. As mentioned earlier, light pole crashed on roof in rear of campus. Several cars that were left in the parking lot were damaged (rocks from the roof apparently broke the windows in all of the cars).

This is just the damage that is visible from the outside while driving by. I'm sure that many schools also experienced some damage inside (ceiling tiles, water entering through windows, leaking roofs, etc...).

Wish I lived in Patterson :(
The City of M.C. site says 6-7 days for electricity. Anyone know when that was posted?

Hi, this is Carmen LaGarde here in Lafayette. My father is the chairman of the St. Mary Parish Council. Here is what he told me. He wouldn't recommend returning to Patterson for a couple of more days. He said that if too many people were to return to Patterson and use the sewage system too much, then it would back up right now because of the lack of electricity. This would be a problem that the city of Patterson doesn't need right now. He also said that Patterson Junior High didn't have any visible damage to the outside of the building. Hope all is well. I will update again after I hear from my father again tomorrow. Hope to see you soon.

Berwick has cable, therefore internet for some of us. Things are coming along but still no power. Still hopeful that everything will be back to normal soon.

OK I just moved to Patterson in August. I live across the street from the Patterson Elementary School. So how close is that or is it in the area there is electricity? I live on Park Street. I am not planning to go home until Thursday or Friday though.

My name is Jarred James Breaux and I am a teacher at Morgan City Junior High School. My brother-in-law was with the Beaumont Channel 4 news crew when they were filming in Morgan City during the eye of the storm. He said that Morgan City took a brutal beating while they were there, but no word to the extent of the damage. It is my understanding that Morgan City Junior High has considerable damage to the rear of the building, to the 2nd and 3rd wings. My classroom is on the corner of the 3rd wing, facing the courtyard however.

I live in Patterson, but I am reluctant to return to my apartment until all utilities have been restored. My brother-in-law stated that Patterson fared well compared to Morgan City.

Also, any updates on the closure of Nicholls University? Their website is a bit vague on the issue of school closure.

Nicholls State University's webpage lists Monday, September 8, for the resumption of classes (http://www.nicholls.edu/).

ULL is beginning classes again on Thursday. I received a text message from the university's emergency management system.

I need to rephrase my comment about electricity in Morgan City....not all of Morgan City has electricity yet but a big portion of it does....they are working to get it all on today or tomorrow...sorry for the misinformtion....Pamela Price

I was told from the outside that J S Aucoin does not look to have external damage. This is second hand information, however reliable I am sure. We are in touch with friends and cco workers that stayed and they are fine with no power in Amelia. I hope that helps.
